Congratulations to Our New Member of the Month

img

Ramona Friedman
Congratulations to our new Member of the Month, Ramona Friedman! Ramona and her family have been members of the club for about five years now. Originally from the Calabasas area, Ramona moved to San Diego for college, and ended up on the Central Coast for the last seven years. Her family consists of her two children, Abby (7) and Elijah (5), along with her husband Josh Greco. As a family, they love swimming. On her own, Ramona enjoys yoga and cooking. The pool is her favorite thing about the club. “With the new improvements it makes it a nice place to work out and hangout. I am grateful for being a part of such a lovely community at the club and in my town,” Ramona says. Congratulations again to Ramona Friedman as our new Member of the Month! We are grateful to have her family a part of our club!

Congratulations to Our New Employee of the Month

Julie Quillin
Congratulations to our new Employee of the Month, Julie Quillin! Julie has worked at the club for seven months now! We could not be happier to have her as part of our Tennis Tower team. Clovis is where Julie grew up, then later moved to Reno to go to school for geography. From Reno, she moved to Redding, then eventually ended up in San Luis. She spent 15 years as a geography information systems specialist; in her words, “A map nerd”. Along with her husband Wolfgang, and her dog Daisy, Julie’s days off are spent paddle boarding, hiking, mountain biking, camping, and being a computer nerd. Tennis is her favorite part of the club! Congratulations again to Julie Quillin as our Employee of the Month! We are so proud to have Julie as part of our ABAC team!

Aquatics Updates

We’re one month into the year, and it has hardly felt like winter! I’m actually looking forward to some cold nights so that I have a good excuse to sit around our new fire pit by the pool. Have you tried it out yet? It’s getting great reviews. I’m also glad to see everyone enjoying our new pool! I know it took a bit longer than expected, but I really do appreciate everyone’s patience with the remodel. Check out our Facebook page if you would like to see a little video of the whole project—you can watch the pool be torn up and rebuilt in about 3 minutes!

Even though it is only January, I’m already starting to plan for summer. We will even be offering some Lifeguard certification classes right here at the club over the next few months.

In February and March, we have the following classes for adults and children as well:

  • Adult Stroke Workshop: Thursday, February 22 from 10:15am – 2:15pm. Get videos of your stroke and tips on how to swim more efficiently. This workshop is part in the water and part in the classroom, and is lots of fun.
  • Free Community CPR: Thursday, March 1 from 11:30am - 2:30pm. Learn adult and pediatric CPR techniques for free. This is an important skill to learn, so come down and join us. The class is free, unless you need the Red Cross Certificate which is $20.
  • Junior Lifeguard Training Camp Level 1: On Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday for two weeks starting March 6th. This class is for kids 7 and over who are interested in trying out for the Junior Guard programs at our local beaches. They’ll get swim training, basic CPR and Lifeguarding skills, and lots of fun!
  • Junior Lifeguard Training Camp Level 2: On Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday for two weeks starting March 20th. This class is for kids 9 and over who have completed level 1 or who have already done Junior Guards in the past.

As always, we have our private swim lessons offered year-round at just about any schedule you like!

Please see our website or fliers around the club for more info, or you can contact me (Mitch Emerson) in the Aquatics office at 805-595-7600 x111 to sign up as well.

Cancer Well-fit

img
We are excited to announce our upcoming annual Spring tennis event, gift card raffle, and special happy hour, which will benefit our in-house Cancer Well-fit Program. Watch for details in the lobby and for sign-ups coming soon!

In conjunction with the tennis event and happy hour with live music, we will be having a raffle drawing to win a jar full of gift cards and certificates from local eateries, wineries, and more! Raffle tickets will go on sale next month for $1.00 each.

This month we are asking club employees, club members, the community, and alumni of the Well-fit program to consider donating one or more gift cards from your favorite store or restaurant for this raffle drawing. Last time we saw this done, the winner took home $750 in gift cards! How fun! You can buy the gift card or ask the vendor to donate it.

On behalf of the Well-fit beneficiaries, we thank you!!

Kids’ Club

Hello February! This year is already off to a great start. As a friendly reminder, please help us keep all the current information on your children by completing a new registration form for the 2018 year. They can be picked up in Kids’ Club, on the desk.

We have some new faces in Kids’ Club that have yet to be introduced. Orchid has been helping us out for a little while now. You may recognize her from the front desk, but she will now be in Kids’ Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Also, I would like you to welcome Ursula Thelin. She is a retired Montessori preschool teacher that is excited to be a part of the team at Avila Bay. Please take the time to get to know these two lovely ladies if you haven’t already. They are amazing.

With a new month comes a new Kid of the Month. Let’s say a big congratulations to Anais Talieh. She loves Kids’ Club and everyone in it. She is super duper nice and is all about teamwork and cooperation. She even stops in for a second to tell all her friends that she won’t be joining on days that she has other fun activities she is doing at the club instead. Good work Anais!

As always, feel free to send any questions or concerns to my email at [email protected] and I will be happy to help you to the best of my ability. Parent’s Night Out falls on the weekend before Valentine’s Day - Saturday, February 10th from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. It’s your lucky night! Come drop the kiddos off with us and go out to dinner with your loved one. We will be doing all kinds of fun activities like obstacle courses, high energy games, Valentines art, special treats, and even squeeze time for dinner in there somewhere. Why not take this opportunity for everybody to enjoy the night? It’s going to be a Valentine’s Day party of epic proportions with almost all of the Kids’ Club staff on hand to bring the ultimate fun - especially for the dance party that occurs in the group fitness room. We calm down at the end of the night with a movie. Please sign up in Kids’ Club, at the front desk, or email
[email protected] to reserve your spot today. Space may be limited for this event so sign up soon!
