We Care About Your Health!

Flu & Virus Prevention

At the Avila Athletic Athletic Club and Spa, we are passionately committed to serving our members and guests and our daily focus is on improving the quality of life for all who come to enjoy our wonderful facility and property.

This includes being mindful of seasonal threats to overall health and wellbeing such as the influenza virus, and having an awareness and prevention plan in place for other communicable viruses that are of concern in our country today.

Rest assured our Club has customized procedures in place for each department with specific regard to cleanliness and sanitation of surfaces and equipment, and these practices are regularly reviewed by our management team.

With regard to the flu and other recent viral concerns, we provide ample disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizing stations throughout the Club and are increasing the number of dispensers for use.

Additionally, we are educating and encouraging our entire staff, and also would like to encourage our members and guests as well, to follow precautionary measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control:

  • Take everyday preventive actions to stop the spread of germs.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.
  • If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone for 24 hours without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.)
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. After using a tissue, throw it in the trash and wash your hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like flu.
  • Preventative care is the best care.

Antioxidant-rich fruits and veggies and probiotic-rich fermented foods can strengthen your body's immune system. Ensure you are getting enough Vitamin D, whether in foods or supplements, to also increase your natural body armor. A balanced diet, plenty of water, physical activity daily, and a strong sleep schedule are your best defenses.

Your fellow members and the staff at the Club appreciate you following virus defense best practices during the flu season.

More Workout Space

 img

You may have noticed some improvements being made outside of the weight room. We are excited to bring you more space to move, stretch and workout in our beautiful Central Coast outdoors. We also have a few surprises in store for you! STAY TUNED!

Heads Up Sunscreen Users

 img

Please lotion up at least 15-30 minutes before getting into the water. It takes that long to get into your skin in order to protect you, and also to keep from washing right off into our pools. This is not good for the water quality, nor for your fellow swimmers. Thanks for your help with this!

Donate Old Shoes

 img

We collect used tennis shoes and donate them to people in need. Lately, we've been taking them to the Prado Homeless Shelter. A group fighting children's cancer was previously benefiting from the shoes. We are really grateful for donations but we do ask that you only bring in shoes that are in good condition. We have to sort every pair and end up throwing away a lot of shoes that have holes or are in bad shape, so please don't leave those here. If you have questions please contact Travis Hawley at [email protected].

ABAC's cancer rehabilitation program just started its winter session, and 12th year running here!

The club's very own Cyndi Silva, experienced instructor of yoga, Pilates, and qigong, will provide instruction at the workshop. She will have participants listen, learn, and move with her gentle guidance.

Suggested donation is $40 for the 4-hour event, but donate what you wish. All revenue goes 100% to support Cancer Well-fit (a 501©3 non-profit). Healthy refreshments will be provided by The Wellness Kitchen and Resource Center.

For registration information, please log onto www.cancerwell-fit.com/donate. In the comment section of the donation process mention Qigong Workshop, your name, email, and number of participants, to reserve your spot in the workshop.

We are grateful to the Avila Beach Golf Resort for donating their beautiful facility space for this event!

Thank You Long Time Tennis Members

 img

There are many examples of lifetime sports, but nothing rivals the sport of tennis!
At the Avila Bay Club, we are lucky to have amazing older men and women regularly playing tennis. For instance, Lowell Davis, Paul Greiling, Shelly Madison, and Gene Gooding have been playing doubles for over 30 years, 3 days a week! When I asked them about their friendships, one of them joked that they have been playing all these years and still do talk to each other!

Singles players George Godde and Frank Collie are also frequently seen on the court, as well as Sandy Smith, Wanda Mathis, and Peggy Jones.

It is no wonder why these members are happy, look fabulous, and keep healthy. Tennis is not just a great way to socialize, it helps improve flexibility, balance, coordination, and reduces the risk of heart disease.
Keep up the good work (and fun) ladies and gents of tennis.
