Club Updates from General Manager Nancy Terrell

May usually has a lot going on for us, and this one is no exception. We kicked it off with a fun Department Head Retreat with our six sister clubs. They all came to ABAC and the Paso Club to meet each other and conclude with an epic Pickleball tournament. (I wish I had taken a photo of Josh out there playing in his club uniform, as he had to open at 5 am that day and forgot a change of clothes!) Michael Marquez duked it out along with his partner that had never played before and came VERY close to earning the winners title for the second time. We look forward to watching him try again next year.

One of my favorite club events will happen this Sunday - the annual Mother's Day Brunch. This is a beautiful event with such lovely food, music, and surroundings. I encourage you to try it if you don't already have other plans. Next week, we will be going live with a new software POS system that will help us move into this decade with online ordering (yes! You can order on your phone from the pool!), and easier ways for customers to give tips. This is something we have been looking for, for many years. It will integrate with our current billing program so that will all still be in one place. Many other events will take place this month, as you can see above, and we will end the month with the first Friday Night Happy Hour of the season, and our biggest tennis tournament of the year, the Avila Classic / Dente Tennis Tournament. That is always a super fun weekend at the club! I can't wait to see you all at these fun events!

FebNLReminder.jpg

We have a few reminders:

  • Please do not sit on workout equipment while using your phone and not working out. Please go finish your thoughts somewhere else and then come back to the machine when you are ready to work out again. You never know who might be waiting to use that equipment.
  • No kids under 16 years of age are allowed in the adult locker rooms (in the main clubhouse). There is a large restroom at the small pool (next to the outdoor shower) that is great for changing. There is even a suit spinner right next to it. (The only exception to this are ladies nursing as there are private rooms inside the ladies' locker room that are most comfortable for this.)
  • Parking: It has been better lately with the help of the village efforts. Our gate to the trail has been installed but the lock arrived missing a part and our fence company has been working hard to get that fixed. It should be up and running this week. When the gate is locked and a club member would like to access the trail from our parking lot, you will need to go to the front desk and check in to get the code. (We will not give out the code over the phone and will be changing the code several times each week.)
    • Reminder - DO NOT PARK in the spots designated for a particular business. They do have a right to tow you. There are a few in the Village – look for a sign at the head of their spots and/or lettering on the asphalt of the spot.
  • Please cancel your swim, tennis, or sauna reservation prior to 4 hours from the start time, or you will receive a $10 cancellation fee.
  • Cancel your swim, tennis, or sauna reservation if you are not coming. No shows receive a $20 fee. Please do be sure to check into the club or it will mark you as a no show for your reservations that day. We run a report at the end of each month to compare club check-ins to the charged no show fees, and remove the fees if you did check in. (We try to catch them each day as well, but the end of the month is the final check.) There is no need to contact us if you checked into the club and see a no-show fee. It will be removed before the month end billing processes.
  • Cell phone policy – No talking on phones in all workout areas and locker rooms (this includes the small changing rooms in the adult women's locker room). Absolutely NO SPEAKER phone usage is allowed in any area of the club. This includes watching videos on the speaker.

Did you know we offer Pilates Reformer Small Group Classes?
Pilates reformer exercises offer a multitude of benefits for both physical fitness and overall well-being:

  1. Strengthens Muscles: The resistance provided by the springs on the reformer machine helps to build and tone muscles throughout the body, including the core, arms, legs, back, and glutes.
  2. Improves Flexibility: The controlled movements and stretches performed on the reformer help to improve flexibility and range of motion in joints, which can reduce the risk of injury and enhance overall mobility.
  3. Enhances Core Stability and Improves Posture: Many Pilates reformer exercises focus on engaging the core muscles, which helps to improve core strength, stability, and posture.
  4. Increases Body Awareness: Pilates encourages mindfulness and body awareness, as you focus on proper alignment, breathing techniques, and precise movements during each exercise.
  5. Improves Balance and Coordination: The reformer challenges your balance and coordination, especially as you work against the resistance of the springs, helping to improve proprioception and overall body control.
  6. Low-Impact Workout: Pilates reformer exercises are gentle on the joints, making them suitable for individuals of all fitness levels and ages, including those with joint pain or injuries.
  7. Customizable Resistance: The reformer machine allows for adjustable resistance levels, making it easy to tailor the workout to your fitness level and goals, whether you're a beginner or an advanced practitioner.
  8. Mind-Body Connection: Pilates emphasizes the connection between mind and body, promoting mental focus, relaxation, and stress reduction during workouts.
  9. Versatility: The Pilates reformer offers a wide variety of exercises and movement patterns, allowing for endless workout possibilities and the ability to target different muscle groups effectively.
